Getting connected to the Internet requires a contract with an Internet Service Provider (ISP).

  • ISPs. Choose between dialup and broadband connection methods depending upon how much speed you want and how much you can afford to pay. The final choice on which ISP to use may be based on their additional services such as spam blocker, antivirus, etc.

  • Computer hardware and software. Your computer may already contain most or all of the hardware and software needed, but your ISP may provide some additional special hardware and/or software.

  • World Wide Web. Once you are connected you will want to take advantage of the great information resources you can access via "surfing" the World Wide Web.

  • Email and Instant Messaging. Let all of your friends and relatives know when you get online so you can use these fast and easy methods to keep in touch with each other.
