In a non-degree, adult continuing education program like
ours the students decide what they want to learn, how they want to
learn it, and when their own learning goals have been achieved.
(Student-centered approach.)
Each student will have personal preferences for learning
new information via solitary, verbal, logical, social, physical, visual, and/or aural styles. How do you learn ??
Classes are designed to
support all of these different styles of learning. (Multiple learning styles.)
Students may begin learning via different
styles, but actively working with computers in class and at home is
necessary for learning how to use computer technology. (Active learning strategy.)
Learning should always be fun !!
Classes are designed to accomodate a wide range of
students, each beginning at a different level of knowledge and skill,
each working in his/her own way and at his/her own pace.
The teacher's role in the adult education classroom is to
introduce topics of interest and to guide the students in learning as
much as they want to know about the topics that interest them.
Modern principles of andragogy and current research on
learning methods guide my efforts to provide the best possible learning
environment for adult education.
Internet resources are used to enhance all of the classes.
These provide learning resources 24/7 in between classroom sessions and
long after the class has been completed. (Life-long learning.)
