Back to Home > *SF Zoo* We caught the last few minutes of feeding time inside the Big Cats House. These growling, snarling, wild beasts were acting like they were worried about when they would get their next meal. After looking at some other exhibits we cycled back to find the lions calmly digesting dinner in their outdoor habitats by the mellow light of late afternoon. ( Down)
Wow!! King of the beasts - no doubt about it.
Photo by IreneT. After feeding time inside the Big Cats House the lions came outside and put on quite a show of lounging and strutting in their habitat.
The nice, even light of late afternoon was perfect for photography.
Harsh mid-day sun on the flamingos standing in front of a dark background made it difficult to get a great photo. I should have reset the camera to get a better exposure on the birds and let the background be underexposed. It would have been even better to go back there in late afternoon when the light would have been more gentle, but I was busy taking pictures of lions at that time (and very happy to be there!).
Normally it is hard to get photos of seagulls, but they were waiting for the penguins' feeding time and hoping for a chance to steal a fish or two.
Plump little guys, obviously well-fed!!
More freeloaders hanging around in the penguin exhibit.
We heard the raucous calls of the male peacocks off and on throughout the day.
This old polar bear needed a bath !!
This adolescent grizzly bear was far from full-sized, but was impressive nevertheless.
The rhino and its habitat fit right in with the earth tones theme of this website. For more information: San Francisco Zoo. ( Top ) ( Previous Page | End of site ) |
